Reading assignments
This page saves you money. Rather than assigning another book to this course at the high prices you would have to pay, your instructor has collected some links that become reading assignments. So read these with the same fervor you would have if you were reading a 94-dollar book you bought new at the bookstore — and be prepared to discuss the material, answer questions on it, and be tested on it.

Assignment 1: What is ethics?
  • Q and A
Follow each link on the page that this links takes you to to read a fairly full-measured description of the issues surrounding ethics. Remember, this is not necessarily journalism ethics but a more general definition. It is from a religious organization.
  • What is/are ethics?
We need a definition. This is a good one to start.
  • What is "right and wrong"?
Is it easier than we think to define right and wrong, or is it someone else's opinion?
  • Can ethics be scientifically measured?
Why does ethics fall into its own sort of category? Why can't we use a ruler or a beaker or a stopwatch to measure ethics? (Long article, don't skip this)
  • Do we have to be religious to be ethical?
What do we need to be ethical?
